Great, Amanda! I hope you're enjoying the book. After the initial flurry of activity I'm interested to know who else is reading the book and thoughts on when we should meet to discuss the book.

I had suggested late April/early May but does everyone feel like this is enough time to read the book?

thanks,

Rachel

I haven't started it yet. I just got finished with another book so Garlic & Sapphires is the next one I'll read. I'm looking forward to it. This book club idea is a good one!

Best regards,

Amanda

I'm looking forward to it as well, and have it at home. Late April is okay, early May might be better... vj

Early May is good for me. We can bring food, too! Maybe I'll make something from the book (I think it has a couple of recipes).

I am now reading Garlic and Sapphires and it's a riot!!! I'm really enjoying it. I started it Saturday and am already on page 94! This is a fun read. Only thing is sometimes it gets my stomach growling!

Best regards,

Amanda

How's everyone doing with the book? I've been pretty busy but it's a pretty fast read.

Now that we're getting close to May I thought people could throw out some days/dates. I'm available any weekend in May except for May 6th and the weekend of May 19th - 21st. As for weekday evenings, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are best for me.
Homer: Are you saying you're never going to eat any animal again? What about bacon?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Ham?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Pork chops?
Lisa: Dad, those all come from the same animal.
Homer: Heh heh heh. Ooh, yeah, right, Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal.

Weekends are bad for me in May. I've finished the book. A Monday would work best for me. I can do Wednesdays (except for the last Wednesday of the month) if it's 6:30 or later. Thanks!

Best regards,

Amanda

How about Monday the 8th or Monday the 16th around 5:30/6:00?

Could we do the 16th?

(I'm in the middle of job interviewing and am spending all my down time researching, rather than reading).

I read the book when it came out and would like to join the group if it is open. I can do the 16th.

I'm game for the 15th or the 16th. My calendar shows the 16th as a Tuesday. Just let me know when and where!

Best regards,

Amanda

Oops, I meant the 15th. :D Tuesdays are definitely out for me.

If the 15th does work for everyone then I'm happy to host at my place. I live in Woodstock - if that's not convenient then we can find a more agreeable location.

Angelhair, looking forward to having you join us!

Hi all -

Is everyone feeling like this Monday the 15th is still a good day to meet at my place to discuss the book around 5:30/6:00? We can start later if that works better for people. Let me know and I can PM each of you my street address and directions.

I'll plan on having some snacky/appetizer foods and beverages. But please bring whatever other foods/beverages you like.

Also, it might be good if we all came prepared with a few title selections for the second book.

Thanks,

Rachel

I'm too late to get in on this month's book club, but would be interested in future books.

Ruth Reichl was a classmate of my sister's, at Hunter College HS (6 year school), class of 65. I don't think Reichl graduated with the class, though. There was a reunion last year (the first one, at 40 years!) and she didn't attend.

I'm looking forward to getting together with you all soon.
