I think we need to do a group dinner there again - who's in? I'm pretty booked the middle of August, but towads the end of the month is open for me.

Yes! I've been meaning to get back there. Either of those work for me, but I'd prefer Tuesday though.

I would be interested but Tuesday night is softball night for me. That's the night my handle changes from "Knobcreeky" to "KneeCreaky".

I don't think I'll be able to make this one, though I would love to. Since I adore Biwa. Monday night is book club and I've got a personal obligation Tuesday evening.

Best regards,

Amanda

I've got a meeting that goes from 6:00 - 8:00 the last Wednesday of each month so I'm worthless that night, too. No biggie, though. I was lucky enough to dine at Biwa a couple weeks ago, so if I have to live without this event I can.

Best regards,

Amanda

So Monday at 7:00?

I looked on the website but it doesn't say the the hot pot is. I know that VJ said something about someone having a mound of seafood in front of them. Is this like shabo shabo but with seafood?

It is like shabu-shabu as it is hot pot, but the broth, meats and noodles change each time. The time I was there, the table near us had the nabe, and it was a korean broth, seafood and salmon, and cellophane noodles. But it could be anything.

We'd love to have you join us. Just come at 7:30 - we'll already be there, but thats no big deal. We're a pretty casual group.

Hope to see you then.

Monday night, I had the best meal Iíve had so far at Biwa. I think at this point Iíve tasted pretty much everything on the menu and have come to the conclusion that the grilled meat dishes are my favorites.

The one dish that was new to me the other night however was the mackerel, and boy was that a winner. Rich and satisfying with deliciously crispy skin and just the right amount of salt, itís been added to my favorites list.

The other grilled items this visit - garlic, chicken thighs, pork belly and lamb were all delicious. I think the kimchee is the best Iíve found in Portland, but itís still not as hot/spicy as what I used to get in Chicago. I just picked at it, but I did notice that the rest of the table woofed it down though. I also had a bite of Loofahgirlís poke and will order that next time I go back, which hopefully will be very soon.

And as always Ė I also loved the sakeÖ

I loved the poke. And I think I ate everyone's kimchee. :shifty: Sorry. I'll go back soon, for sure.

Mackerel, kim chee and pork belly were the standouts for me.
I tried 2 different kinds of sake but, I'm sorry to say, I'm just not a sake drinker. I think it is a little sweet for my tastebuds. I usually will try it a couple of times a year in hopes that I will like it better but I can't seem to get wrapped around it. I did notice the application for hard A in the window.
The food and company more than made up for it though.

The garlic was awsome
