Please tell me about your experiences of hominy/nixtamal - where do you buy it? What do you buy? And do you lime the hominy, or purchase already limed Nixtamal? Where did you buy cal or lime? And is there such a thing as blue corn hominy?

I love blue corn tortillas... which would be made from blue corn nixtamal, right? And nixtamal is just limed hominy, right?

I bought some dried hominy from the bulk bins at Winco. It wasn't marked as nixtamal; it was only marked as hominy. I made my first pot of hominy last week. It was not nixtamal(led) so it took about half as long to hull the damn corn. But now I have caught the bug.

Okay. 3 Sisters Nixtamal offers hominy *and* nixtamal. They can also supply cal. If you'd like to get hominy at a Farmers Market (they're at People's Food Coop's Wednesday Market, just contact them via their website.

I'm picking up some blue corn hominy tomorrow :)

I got cal at Kaah Market at the Portland Mercado. I had to ask - I just didn't see it. Maybe cal is everywhere?
