Promise Land Cafe

As VJ can attest, I’ve been obsessing about this place for months. Why? Who knows? Maybe it’s my being disappointed with most of the “Mediterranean” places I’ve tried in town.
Anyway, I finally took the leap and went to Promise Land Cafe for lunch today and it was quite good.
We tried the rose flavored lemonade, a hummus/tabouli/falafel platter and a Lamb Spiedini in a “Lemon basil olive oil garlic sauce.”
All the food was tasty, but the lamb dish was truly exceptional. I always thought of spiedini as being a kebab. In this case it wasn’t. It was a boneless piece of fresh lamb topped with sliced, toasted garlic on top on a buttery rich tomato sauce. I’ve recall a similar sauce served over what is called İskender kebap in Bursa, Turkey. Absolutely delicious.
We were also given a generous sample of Muhalbia (soft sweet cream cheese topped with pistachio) on the house. It’s basically a rich, thick, milk pudding topped with grated pistachio.
The owner knows how to give good service and he seems like a classy guy. I think his wife’s the chef. They’re from Jordan. It’s family run.
I recommend this place highly.
Lunch is much more affordable vs dinner.
There’s parking in the back.
