With a name that translates to “tall beer” in German, Altabira City Tavern is celebrating National Beer Day this Thursday, April 7 with guest brewer Paul Francis from Portland-based Culmination Brewing. Altabira will serve a flight of Culmination beers paired with beer-inspired cuisine from chef Luis Escorcia from 3:30 to close in the restaurant and bar and out on the patio.

 

Culmination Beer Flights and Food Pairings

 

Cold and Calculated Golden Ale

Pretzel with housemade beer mustard and pimento cheese

Baked macaroni and cheese with wild mushrooms, peas, leeks and bread crumbs

 

Euphoric Brett IPA

Ceviche of cod calamari and shrimp with chilies, avocado and tortilla chips

Braised lamb shank with fregula sarda, spring vegetables and mint pesto

 

Phaedrus IPA

Pork and lemongrass skewers with pickled papaya salad and crispy shallots

Roasted half chicken with herb gnocchi, fava beans, peas, cipollini onions and Meyer lemon vinaigrette

 

Choco Mountain Stout – Nitro

Al ceppo pasta with braised beef cheek, Pecorino Romano and marjoram

Chocolate peanut pretzel bomb with salted caramel and pretzel brownie

 

Altabira City Tavern offers regional American cuisine focused on updated classic dishes, 16 taps of local craft beers, select Northwest wines and locally distilled spirits. The Tavern is open for lunch and dinner in a modern setting with large floor-to-ceiling windows with sweeping views of Portland’s downtown skyline and inner eastside.  Altabira means “tall beer” in German and reflects a beer-centric approach with beer and food pairings from chef de cuisine Luis Escorcia.
