But it's purely a superficial gimmick.  At least a cronut actually might taste interesting.

I'm not sure I agree with the objection to ham and swiss on a plain bagel, but otherwise I'm generally in support of this rant. I'm certainly not a huge traditionalist when it comes to bagels, as I tend to think that a plain bagel with cream cheese and pretty much any damned protein in the world is delicious (including, but not limited to: bacon, duck confit, chicken, turkey, roast beef, pepperoni, and salami), but that thing does seem like a bit of an abomination. As are, "pretzel bagels," btw. It's not a pretzel bagel, it's just a pretzel roll with a hole in the middle (which is fine as far as it goes, but NOT A BAGEL).
