PORTLAND CULINARY COMMUNITY GATHERS TO FIGHT CHILDHOOD HUNGER

Share our Strength’s Taste of the Nation® Portland Hosts Annual Culinary Event April 29th at Crystal Ballroom

The statistics are daunting.  According to the Oregon Food Bank, one in five Oregonians are worried about feeding their families. On April 29th, Share our Strength’s 27th annual Taste of the Nation® will bring together Portland’s culinary community to raise money to fight childhood hunger, preparing dishes around the theme of “What My Family Ate.”  The event takes place at McMenamins Crystal Ballroom in downtown Portland from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. ($85) with VIP admission ($150) at 5:30 p.m.  Tickets are on sale now at http://ce.strength.o...ion-portland-or.

“I’m gratified to be part of this important cause,” says Sarah Schafer, Taste of the Nation Portland chef chair and executive chef at Irving Street Kitchen.  “Currently 36 percent of Oregon households with children report having to cut or reduce the size of a child’s meal.  It is more important than ever to step up and do something.”

Taste of the Nation Portland raises critical funds to support Share Our Strength's mission, and 100 percent of ticket sales support Share Our Strength’s efforts to end childhood hunger.  Local beneficiaries for Taste of the Nation Portland include Oregon Food Bank, Partners for a Hunger Free Oregon, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and Klamath/Lake Counties Food Bank.
