January 6, 2014 – Portland, OR – Pacific Pie is inviting all Portland pie lovers to show off their mad baking skills in honor of National Pie Day.  Portland’s renown pie company is calling for entries for its Third Annual Pie Contest, naming one baker the reigning 2014 PDX Pie Champion.

When:  Sunday, January 19, 2014.  Registration: 11am-1pm, judging 1pm-2pm, People’s Choice Award judging from 2pm onwards.

Where:  Pacific Pie, 1668 NW 23rd Ave., Portland

Categories:  Sweet pies and savory pies

Rules for entry:  No registration necessary and no cost for entry.  Multiple entries per person are accepted.  All entries must be fully baked, ready to eat, and accompanied by a recipe.

Judging:  A panel of prestigious, self-proclaimed pie aficionados have been assembled to taste all the entries and select winners in each category.  Winning bakers get bragging rights and their pies featured on the restaurant’s menu in February.  For additional information, please contact Pacific Pie at 503-894-9482 or info@pacificpieco.com.

Judges:

·         Thea Dieter – 11-year old Pacific Pie customer and pie connoisseur

·         Jen Stevenson – author, “100 Best Places to Stuff Your Faces”

·         Cana Flug – owner of Besaw’s and Wildwood

·         Marnie Hanel – national freelance writer

·         Jordan Felix – head bartender, Multnomah Whiskey Library

·         Kate Withiam – Pacific Pie head pastry chef

After the judges sample the pies, the general public will get to taste the pies and cast their vote for the “People’s Choice” award.  All are invited to come and enjoy the festivities, or come by either Pacific Pie location on Thursday, January 23rd, the official National Pie Day, for a slice of sweet pie for $3.50 each (normally $4.50) or taste of one of the many classic or creative pie flavors on the menu that entire week.

The celebration continues on Saturday, January 25th when Pacific Pie celebrates Australia Day (officially on Sunday, January 26th, but adjusted for the time difference.)  Both locations will offer $3 Foster’s beer, $3 sausage rolls, $4 Aussie wine and a $5 special meat pie.  Australia Day is always one of Pacific Pie’s busiest days of the year, with Aussies coming from all over the region to celebrate with other ex-pats.
