Just looking for a little help.  I've got a layover tomorrow morning from 8AM-Noon and want to escape the airport to grab breakfast.  From my search, it looks like the Country Cat is a very reputable restaurant which is a short cab ride (10 minutes?) from the airport.  Any other options I should be aware of?  Thanks in advance for your assistance!!!!

Edit: I should add that I have a STRONG preference if the restaurant is close to a MAX Red Line stop.  I know Country Cat doesn't at all fit this criteria, but maybe you guys can help me out.  Is it dumb if I just ride it all the way into downtown and grab something there????

Tasty and Alder closer to the max - right by the max line downtown. Not too stupid! Awesome place.

Getting downtown gives you lots of options for places to eat, grab a coffee from one of the downtown shops, take a short walk and still have time to get back to the airport. Country Cat is very good, but the taxi ride each way won't be cheap.

Red Line runs every 15 minutes and gets you downtown in 40 Minutes

Around the downtown max stops, I really like Stumptown, Fresh Pot, Cacao,  and Blue Star Donuts for non-meal things.

I'm gonna try to hit up my favorite coffee shop.  I think it's called Courier Coffee or something like that...pretty close to Powell's.

Courier is one of my favorites. Nicest guy in the world, great philosophy and really good coffee. On SW Oak between 9th and 10th - pretty much just across the street from Powells.

Sounds like a nice morning in PDX.

I also love Courier -- it's such a great experience, and so Portland.

If you're in more of a hurry, Spella Cafe makes a great espresso - 520 SW 5th Ave., between Alder & Washington.

Just a heads up for all of you on how it went.

Left airport, walked to MAX and arrived downtown PDX around 9:30.  Walked to Tasty and Alder.  Lovely time.  Left around 10:15.  Walked to Kenny and Zukes for a few slices of pastrami, also went to Nong's for an order of Khao Man Gai for the plane.  2 shots at Courier.  Made it back to PDX airport at around 11:15.  Flight left an hour later.  A little rushed, but entirely possible to enjoy downtown PDX on a 4 hour layover.
