On September 4th, a great person and friend Tim Parsons fell and sustained a major head injury. He literally cracked his skull, bled around his brain, and spent a significant time in a semi-coma in the ICU at OHSU. His recovery will take 3-6 months of major rehab...and he really won't be able to work for a while.
Some of you might have seen or known Tim from his time at Genoa/Accanto, last as Events Manager. He left there and started his own business, Silent Partner PDX, a PR/events/photography biz (http://silentpartnerpdx.com). He helped his friends start up Boke Bowl, first as a series of pop-ups (which he helped create and manage) and then as a full brick and mortar. He's been working behind the scenes to bring us all great food, and also great music and art events. Without a doubt, Portland is a better place because of Tim and the work he does around town. He's also a helluva guy and fun to hang out with...if you met Tim, you couldn't help but love the guy.
So, here he is, rehabbing from a traumatic brain injury. He does not have health insurance or a life partner to help him through this. He has wonderful family and friends, many of whom are doing all they can to make sure he makes a full recovery and gets back to the work he so clearly loves. But all of this medical care and rehab is seriously expensive for someone that does not have insurance (OK, it's probably expensive if you have insurance too...). And of course, these financial struggles are compounded by the fact that Tim cannot work right now, so he has no money coming in to support himself while he makes his comeback.
What can you do to help? Well, one of Tim's many friends is the owner of the restaurant Toast http://www.toastpdx.com/ Today he is donating 20% of all sales to Tim's fund to help him pay for the care he needs. Toast is open for brunch/dinner and has a short drinks menu. If you can have a meal today at Toast, please do it...you have to eat, and Tim needs the help. I'll be there for dinner later, say hi if you make it and see me. There's more info here:
Even if you can't go to Toast, you can still help. There has been a fund set up to help raise money for Tim here:
Thanks for reading this far and thanks for making an effort to help someone that may have touched your life, if only because you love going to Boke Bowl or the Graeter Gallery or any of the many places Tim has worked with that make living in Portland better.
