I LOVE coconut water but cannot stand the packaged stuff. Thai young coconuts are at HMart for about $1.29 each. Yum. I love the taste but when I opened one for my sister she did not care for it. I added juice from half an orange to it for her and it was a hit.

Okay, I saw a ton of white coconuts wrapped in plastic wrap at Uwajimaya. The sign said "young coconuts", is this the same thing as what nomnom and stu mentioned? You'd think I'd know the friggin' difference, we had a coconut tree in our front yard growing up.

So, um, how do you "open" a coconut without losing the water? I googled and found this:

After an intense three day weekend of extensive research into the wines of the world, I'm prepared to endorse O.N.E Coconut Water - $5.49 per liter at New Seasons as my new best drinking buddy

I wonder if young coconuts are as forgiving. If I want to scoop the young coconut meat out, I use a cleaver (I do not use my other hand to hold the coconut steady). If I just want a drink, then I pull out the makita drill.

It works preventatively! I was definitely teetering on my heels walking to the car last night. Those three J. Wray & Ting's (J & Ts as we call 'em) went down waaay too easily. So before bed, I washed down two advil with a coconut water. Voila, feeling human this morning!
