The Westside gets yet another mediocre BBQ joint. I should have known better after checking the website and seeing it was a chain.

I took one for the team and gave them a shot anyways, talk about underwhelming. I had their two meat combo, "Bar-B-Q Beef" and smoked turkey breast. For sides I went with the BBQ baked beans and coleslaw.

All I had to do was take one look at the plate and knew I was going to be disappointed. Both the "Bar-B-Q Beef" and turkey were deli thin slices. I don't know about you, but I like my BBQ meat in thick slices, not thinly sliced piles you have to poke at to get a decent bite of meat on your fork. The way they cut their meat is better suited for a sandwich.

As far as the meat tastes... I am glad they call the beef "Bar-B-Q Beef" and not brisket, because this sure as hell was not brisket. No sign of a crust and the smoke ring is tiny, just faintly visible. The smoke was a little on the light side. I found it necessary to smother the meat in BBQ sauce for taste. Same story with the turkey breast, tasted more like smoked deli meat than smoked BBQ. At least both the beef and turkey were moist. Nothing redeeming about the sides, both the baked beans and coleslaw tasted bland.

Oh well, back to driving across town just to get good Q.

#84560 Pure Kona whole bean?

Posted by 190 Proof on 30 March 2008 - 11:23 PM in Portland Bars & Wine Bars

I have been trying to find a place that sells pure Kona coffee with no luck.

So far... every store, coffee house, roaster I have checked, only sell a Kona blend which is a waste of my time.

The only place I have found that sells pure Kona by the bean is Trader Joes and I am not a fan of their canister beans.

Can anybody suggest a place in the Portland metro area that sells 100% pure Kona coffee beans?
