#107937 Five Guys Burger and Fries

Posted by Goobzilla on 01 November 2008 - 07:36 PM in Restaurants in Portland

I'm heading down to Portland Saturday and I'm giving Five Guys a shot for lunch.

Well, I survived the trip to Beaverton.  Stupid tree trimming on the other side of the tunnel kept us sitting in traffic for a while.  We got there and the line was almost out the door.  I had some peanuts while the line moved very quickly and talked to a very nice local girl who loved the place and had been there SEVERAL times since they opened.

As far as the food went it was a tasty burger, much better than the standard fast food fare.  The fries were fresh, tasty and plentiful.  A little more expensive than the normal fast food joint, but for higher quality I'm glad to pay it.  I live in Centralia and have a Burgerville within walking distance of my house, if I had magic powers I'd gladly swap it out for the Five Guys and never look back.

Got hooked on the Arctic Circle (and their fry sauce) in 1990 after spending a 6 month stint in Idaho Falls back in my Navy days.  Went to Yakima last year and had to bring a couple bottles back.  Just as good as I had remembered, plus where else can you get a lime rickey these days?

#76015 5 way Chili?

Does anybody know if there is place in Portland that serves 5 way Chili? It has been a long time and I have a need!!

You need to make it yourself or order online. There are lots of recipes online if you search for Cincinnati Chili recipe. I think homemade is best as you can add more better meat and adjust the spices according to your tastes.

You can order Goldstar or Skyline online. I think Goldstar is best.

These sites might also be of interest to those of you who have never experienced this Cincinnati area phenomenon.

I just ordered 6 cans of Goldstar chili, looking forward to trying it.  I think I'll try either Skyline or Dixie next.  Someday I actually hope to get out to an actual Cincy chili parlor.

Just wanted everyone to know the Gold Star chili rocked and I am now a true believer in Cincinnati chili!

And now we just mail ordered some Skyline.  The group was pretty much split down the middle on which is better.  Personally I liked the Skyline over the Gold Star, but they are both really good and very unique.

La Tarasca here in Centralia is usually a pretty good bet, but I haven't seen much action over there lately.  I'll go over and check it out, it could have been flood damaged, on vacation, or something worse.

We have always been a fan of Annie's donuts on Sandy and about 70th, across the street from Safeway.  Decent donuts can be had at the place on Alberta next to La Sirenita.

I can get behind Annie's too.  And Sesame.  Just avoid Voodoo, unless you're chauffeuring tourists around.

And there used to be a place in John's Landing that was darn good too when I was a kid (aged, not acting :( ), but I'm sure they're gone by now.

It's Annie's for us whenever we come to your fair city.  Although I every time I go thru that funky intersection I always feel like there's going to be an accident.

I'm not sure if this is a nationwide promo or not, but today 11/13 is 99 cent Arby's regular day.  They're pimping it pretty hard here in SW WA.  Hope you closet Arby's fans get in on the good deal!
