I'm hoping to find a bar/restaurant in walking distance (Alberta would be ideal), that doesn't mind babies, has good cocktails and decent food. Doesn't have to have happy hour specials, though that would be great. Anyone have any suggestions? I figure I might as well enjoy all the perks of maternity leave while I can...

Authentica on Killingsworth is a good choice. Alberta Street Oyster Bar and Grill also seems to fit the bill, and they have a happy hour proper I believe. I've brought my kid to Ciao Vito on multiple occasions and have felt welcome.

Check out Tin Shed too b/c I often see kids in there. I don't know their hours off-hand but they have good drinks and cheap eats and it's a really nice spot when the patio is open. Their fish tacos are good and they make a tasty margarita.

I used to do happy hour at Thai Noon's bar a lot. Cheap, cheap food.

Tin Shed by far. I haven't been to Thai Noon's HH but it seems like it would be pretty kid-friendly.

This thread (the unexpurgated version) is one of the more interesting ones I’ve seen on this board. "Happy Hour" and "maternity leave" is a dining niche I just hadn't thought of, I guess. I had what I think was a funnier post, but who knows what's vitriolic these days. OK, for Supersly - There are as far as I know, no restaurants in Portland that prohibit children. Pick a place on Alberta, or nearby that you're comfortable with, tuck Junior into his or her jammies, and off you go! So, who's the dedicated driver?

There is nothing wrong with a new mom wanting a cocktail! Also, FWIW, she asked for someplace within walking distance.

I thought about just dropping in on a place or two. But I figured I could piggyback off of others' experiences and get recommendations for places where I wouldn't immediately encounter hostile stares the second I walked in with a baby. (Or at least that the hostile stares wouldn't be *because* of the baby). Part of the reason I want something on Alberta is that it's walking distance, so there's no need to drive! Though it's not like I'm looking to get shitfaced. That doesn't happen till at least 8 p.m.

But there have been some really beautiful days, great for walks with the baby. And a beer or cocktail would make the day perfect -- and help ease the transition into the baby's fussy evening hours... I'd say there's a huge niche for new moms looking to take the edge off!

One of the many reasons I loved the Kennedy School's mommy matinees when I was on maternity leave. Not only do you get to watch a matinee in a ridiculously baby-friendly environment, you can drink a mid-day beer at the same time. Beer at noon! With a sleeping baby on your lap! In public!!

Haven't been there in ages, but ChaChaCha on Fremont used to have a really cheap food happy hour thing with some pretty good fresh juice margaritas. Don't know that everyone would consider the food 'good,' but it's 'decent' IMHO. And it's a kid-friendly place.

I totally forgot abt the Kennedy School mommy matinees! Excellent idea, especially since I figured I wouldn't be seeing a movie out anytime soon.
