I know I'm probably gonna take hits for this, but sometimes I really like Arbys. Generally, their high-processed, sodium-laden regular roast beef sandwiches come on my radar screen because they get offered up 5 for $5.95 and my man enjoys them. Once I get them I usually die of thirst for days afterwards, but I still don't resist them as long as he's buying. I used to be addicted to their chicken sandwiches, too, but that way back when as a young adult in freer days. I'm old now and that time has passed.

Currently, they have one of my all time favorite sandwiches (which they only bring out as a special these days and are not on the regular menu ever anymore): ARBY Q's! These are presauced BBQ beef sandwiches that I adore! Anytime they offer them up for a limited time that limited time is a major indulgence in fast food for me. I will eat them several times before they go bye-bye. Tonight on our way out of town we plan on getting a bag of them and some fries before we head on out. 5 for $5.95 is the going rate. Arby Q's are a serious guilty pleasure for me. It's a shame, but it's true.

OK...now I'll duck and cover while everyone brings out the torches and pitchforks after my head and scream for me to go to hell or go to Podnah's! :)

Best regards,

Amanda

Everyone has transgressions of this sort from time to time.

Some just worse than others.... :)

My son loves them too. He's in Georgia these days and they have them all the time down his way.

We used to buy a bag and take them home so we could add hot sauce and dill pickle slices.

I'm not going to torch you Amanda. I like a lot of stuff that people don't like on here. I also don't like a lot of stuff other people seem to love.

That said, I like Arby Q's too. I like their chicken strips better than any of the other fast food places. You can make a good fast asian meal by cutting up their chicken strips, adding some sauteed onions and peppers, and an asian sauce. Lemon, Szechuan, kung pao, Yoshida's etc.

I remember going to Arby's in the 60's in Ohio where they all had a real whole roast beef hanging in a rotating chrome chain on the front counter. Mocha shakes were big too.

Beef'n'cheddars, Baby. I put an extra arby's sauce on them before I put them in the fridge and eat them cold for breakfast. :) Sick, I know.

I too love the salty roast beef + petroleum-based cheese product, AKA beef n cheddar. :w00t:

There is no shame in enjoying low-brow cusine! It's the people who can't admit to liking it who should be ashamed.

We have the beef sandwiches about once a month. I really like them with the horses sauce and with a coupon, they make a really cheap lunch ($3.98 for the two of us!).

Hello, my name is Denise ("hello, Denise!) and I am a beef-n-cheddar-n-horsey-sauce aholic. It has been 120 days since my last beef-n-cheddar.

Funny...I just saw a commerical for Arby's the other night and said to my husband, "Hmmmm....Arbys! We need an Arby's closer to us!" And then we went back and forth about where the nearest one was.

I like their basic roast beef, mostly because they remind me of the roast beef sandwiches from the Hardee's chain (which have mostly been bought by Carl Jrs, or at least the ones in my hometown). Haven't been to an Arby's in a while though.

Hmmm, I'm finding the start of this thread a bit ironic, Amanda, considering your dislike of chains in the buffet thread. Exception to the rule I suppose?

I got a serious weakness for the Arby Q's. It's just the ugly truth.

Nothing ugly about it. I have a weakness for McDonald's fries...and bacon. We've all got our vices.

OMG McRibs. My husband loves those things, he's always trying to convince me how delicious they are.

1-2 times a year we have a mini binge on McD's quarter pounders with cheese and those evil fries.

We generally give in to the fast food cravings more than we should but since he's been working more it's gotten quite a bit better.

One of my close friend's and her husband ate at Arby's the night of their wedding. They've been marred for 20 years now and always go to Arby's on their anniversary. They've come a long way from where they were back then financially, but still want to remember {not forget?} what it was like when that was all they could afford.

A few years ago they celebrated one of their anniversaries in Paris. They wrote to Arby's headquarters to see if there were any eateries in France. It turns out that there wasn't but Arby's treated them to an anniversary dinner anyway. I can't remember exactly what the company did for them, but it was something special and a way to say 'thank you' for being so loyal.

Personally I don't eat there, but I keep them in high regards for the thoughtful and warm customer service they gave my friend.

Mmmm....horsey sauce. I'm not a fan of the roast beef, but a ham and cheese with some horsey sauce on it and curly fries on the side, dipped in kechup/Arby's sauce/horsey sauce...oh, my, that's good eating.

What a great story, Cat!

Arby's is one of my guilty pleasures from childhood. When I was a kid in Kentucky, on special occasions, we'd go out to Arby's (or if it was really special, to the Kentucky Fried Chicken sit-down restaurant -- I suppose I'm showing my age, here). So, I do tend to go to Arby's if I have to eat fast food. It's of course not as good as my memories, but it's never so bad that I don't want to go back.

I always get the roast beef sandwich with horsey and arby sauces. And a potato cake. Cheese would ruin it. (this might be the only time I'll ever say that)

Hardee's is still around and operating under that name East of the Mississippi. They have merged with Carl's Jr. on a corporate level so restaurants in the West operate under the Carl's Jr. name.

Arby's is definitely in the "guilty pleasure" category, it's hard to feel good about eating there but I admit, I don't mind it now and then. If you're ever in Minneapolis, head to the suburb of Roseville, there's a place there called Maverick's that was set up with the stated intent of being like Arby's but better, and it is, LIGHT YEARS better! Check out their Roast beef sammich:

Yeah, I had heard some were still around, but even east of the Miss. there are some former Hardees that are now Carl's. I grew up on the IA/IL border and all in that area on the east side of the river are now Carl's Jr. It's just not the same.
